TUSCANY, Italy (October 27, 2019) – Scuderia Corsa had a tremendous weekend at the Ferrari Challenge Finali Mondiali earning its second North America Trofeo Pirelli Driver Championship as well as Coppa Ladies Championship, Third in Coppa Shell Am and second in the Trofeo Pirelli Dealership Championship for Ferrari Westlake.
Scuderia Corsa’s three Challengisti closed the 2019 Ferrari Challenge season with a weekend of fierce on track battles complemented by the circuits rich Ferrari history. The 14 turn, 3.26-mile Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello was bought by Scuderia Ferrari in 1988 making it an acclaimed Ferrari track. Mugello Circuit is a staple testing sight for the Scuderia Ferrari Formula One team and boasts the safest circuit features in the world. The weekend was enhanced by an evening of festivities at the Ferrari Challenge Banquet where the drivers basked in memories made throughout the 2019 season and reveled in forging new ones.
The weekend began on a high note for Scuderia Corsa’s three drivers who shared in champagne showers. In Race One Cooper MacNeil finished first in Trofeo Pirelli extending his championship point lead and receiving top honors in Coppa Team Trofeo Pirelli. MacNeil entered Race Two as the Ferrari Challenge North America Champion after locking down the championship with his pole position qualifying lap.
A third place finish in Race One would secure Eric Martson third in the Coppa Shell Am championship.
Lisa Clark had a dominant weekend standing on the podium three times and being adorned the North America Coppa Ladies Champion.
For Giacomo Mattioli, the Finali Mondiali represents the pinnacle of his drivers and teams strength over the season.
“The Finali Mondiali always provide a perfect setting to end the season,” Mattioli said. “The sense of community is strong and competing against so many drivers is rewarding. Our drivers did a terrific job, Cooper closed down another Championship with a great pass in Race One and a dominant pole position. Eric and Lisa enjoyed the podium on Italian soil. We are looking forward to the new car for 2020, it looks great and we can’t wait to test it.”
Leading up to the Finali Mondiali Scuderia Corsa partook in another season finale, the Blancpain GT World Challenge America at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the No. 64 Ferrari 488 Challenge. The No. 64 was piloted by Scuderia Corsa veteran Alessandro Balzan and Bret Curtis for the two, 90-minute races around the 12 turn, 2.4-mile roval located less than a mile from the team’s shop. The pair finished an impressive seventh in Race One and sixth in Race Two in the ultra-competitive class. With the 2019 racing season at an official close, the team is already hard at work with 2020 planning for Scuderia Corsa’s efforts in Ferrari Challenge, IMSA, and IndyCar competition.
