Scuderia Corsa Finishes Top Ten Surviving Watkins Glen Heat, Team Readies for Canada SportsCar Grand Prix
WATKINS GLEN, New York (July 2, 2018) – During one of the hottest races on record, Scuderia Corsa and their two Ferrari 488 GT3 entries would walk away with dual top-10 performances after a hard-fought day of racing during Sunday’s Six Hours of the Glen, a historic six-hour race as part of the IMSA North American Endurance Cup. The No. 63 Ferrari 488 GT3 of Cooper MacNeil, Gunnar Jeannette and Jeff Segal would finish seventh, while the No. 64 of Bill Sweedler, Townsend Bell and Frankie Montecalvo would finish 10th. Notoriously one of the most chaotic and intense races on the calendar, the six-hour classic showed to be full of action. The No. 63 repeatedly proved fast, having to settle for seventh due to a series of unscheduled pit stops as well as a fueling issue. The No. 64, meanwhile, would also prove competitive, maligned due to a flat tire beyond their control finishing tenth. Facing the shortest turnaround of the season, the team will actually head North of the border in just three days, competing at the famed Canadian Tire Motorsport Park next Sunday. The cars will unload this coming Thursday, meaning the teams only have a couple of days to refresh their machines in time for the next event. As a traditional sprint race, the team will return to a single-car entry for the track formerly known as “Mosport,” with Cooper MacNeil and Jeff Segal once again teaming together for Sunday’s event in the No. 63 Ferrari 488 GT3. For Team Owner, Giacomo Mattioli, the summer season has officially begun. “It was a tough day. The heat and the various issues that we faced made for a challenging race. However, the team’s attitude of #nevergiveup overcame fire and penalties to take both cars to top 10. Now off to Canada!” For Cooper MacNeil, a rough day was highlighted by great team perseverance. “It was just not our day here at The Glen, with two penalties and a fire,” MacNeil said. Those three things cost us a lot of time. No one ever gave up! The crew, drivers and engineers all dug in and clawed back. We have another race in less than a week. We will turn the page and head to Canada.” For Bill Sweedler, a similar sentiment is shared. “Racing at Watkins Glen is always a highlight,” stated Sweedler. “Our results didn’t show, but we were strong all weekend. With the heat and some of the nagging issues we faced all day, it’s tough to say how we would have done without some unscheduled pit stops, but Scuderia Corsa put a great car together and once again performed well.” Official practice for the upcoming race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park will begin on Friday, July 6, with race action taking place on Sunday, July 8.
