LAS VEGAS (Nov. 12, 2019) – MICHELIN Motorsport calculated that it was Scuderia Corsa who spent the least amount of time in the pits over the course of the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season in the GT Daytona Class.
Michelin kept a keen eye on such a calculations such as time in the pit lane for criteria that showcased the yearlong effort of the entire team when it came to preparation, teamwork and performance as well as outright pace. With help from IMSA, Michelin estimated the fairest variables to consider eligibility for the award. The Least Time in Pits Award was calculated over the course of the season, beginning at the Roar Before the 24. The teams had complete 90% or more of the race time in all races with the addition of championship points standing added into the final tally.
At the end of 2019, the clear winner was Scuderia Corsa. The team’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season consisted of podium finishes at Sebring International Raceway, Watkins Glen International, VIRginia International Raceway and WeatherTech Laguna Seca. Along with rewards of the podium, Scuderia Corsa showcased pace on and off-track throughout much of the season.
Drivers Cooper MacNeil, Toni Vilander and Jeff Westphal each pushed the No. 63 WeatherTech Ferrari to its limits, demonstrating the capability and endurance of the machine. Meanwhile, the Scuderia Corsa pit crew seamlessly executed pit stop after pit stop going against various forms of adversity. Whether it was basic service stops, driver changes, quick repairs, or other the Scuderia Corsa crew had the No. 63 covered.
The award for being the best in pit lane comes with more than bragging rights. The team was gifted 18 sets of DOT-legal street tires, to be distributed amongst the Scuderia Corsa team members as seen fit. Being that this is Michelin’s inaugural year as a primary tire provider in IMSA, this is the first year this award has been received, making Scuderia Corsa the first on a prestigious list.
For Team Principal Giacomo Mattioli, the acknowledgment comes as an honor.
“To be awarded for our consistency of speed in pit lane is a testament to the efficiency we strive for every race weekend,” Mattioli said. “This comes with practice and passion for what we do. It also shows that the competition does not end, you are fighting every second of the race; it is just not always the driver doing the fighting.”
Scuderia Corsa currently is gearing up for the 2020 season of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The season is quickly approaching as the Roar Before the 24 takes place Jan. 3-5, 2020. The No. 63 will be ready for a shakedown on a durable set of Michelin tires with its crew prepared for whatever may lay ahead.
