May 17, 2016 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – Designed to host Formula 1, the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas has quickly become one of the most highly-anticipated venues for Ferrari Challenge with its combinations of high speed straightaways, challenging fast corners and slow, technical sections. At this past weekend’s Ferrari Challenge event, Scuderia Corsa brought no less than nine Ferraris to the track for the weekend’s events.
Scuderia Corsa provides a complete solution for drivers who are looking to bring their passion for Ferrari on a race track. Scuderia Corsa’s Driver Development Program prepares early-stage drivers for participation in the Ferrari Challenge series. Utilizing the same engineering staff and driver coaching used in Scuderia Corsa’s IMSA and Pirelli World Challenge programs, the Driver Development Program is utilized by drivers from all walks of life – from 17-year-old Alistair Garnett to longtime client Neil Langberg.
Once drivers are ready to race wheel-to-wheel, Scuderia Corsa continues to support them to compete in the Ferrari Challenge series. Utilizing the Ferrari 458 Challenge Evoluzione, a race-prepared version of the 458 Italia, the series contests six double-race weekends at racetracks across North America. In addition, this year the Ferrari Challenge World Finals will be held in North America, at Daytona International Speedway on December 1-4.
Amongst the Ferrari Challenge field, the Scuderia Corsa Ferraris stood out with their competitiveness and improvement throughout the weekend of competition. In the Trofeo Pirelli class, Wei Lu recorded two qualifying efforts of second place and recorded a best finish of fourth on Saturday in the Trofeo Pirelli class. In Trofeo Pirelli AM, Danny Baker recorded a best finish of fourth place while Garnett’s best finish was seventh. And, in the Coppa Shell class, Karl Williams scored a podium result with a third place. Darren Enenstein’s best finish of the weekend was 10th while Langberg recorded a 16th-place finish.
Three additional Scuderia Corsa Ferraris took advantage of the Esperienza program which provides non-competitive lapping sessions for drivers beginning the motorsports journey with Ferrari. Ed Chalupa and Mike Heagerty both took part in the sessions this weekend with support from the Scuderia Corsa engineering staff and driver coaches.
“The Circuit of The Americas is a world class track, built to the standards of Formula 1,” said Roberto Amorosi, Scuderia Corsa Technical Director. “For gentlemen drivers, it represents a unique and serious challenge because of the many different types of corners and complexity. Thanks to our coaches and crew, all our drivers improved tremendously over the weekend. It was an impressive achievement considering it was the first time on this track for most of them, as well as the different weather conditions they faced.”
The next round of the Ferrari Challenge series will be June 10-12 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, when the Ferrari Challenge will race as a support series to the Formula 1 World Championship.
