LAS VEGAS (June 20, 2019) – Scuderia Corsa, Ed Jones and the No. 20 Ed Carpenter Racing Scuderia Corsa Chevrolet race the historic Road America with NTT IndyCar in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on June 23 for the REV Group Grand Prix presented by American Medical Response.
Road America presents Jones’ first race since the Dual in Detroit and the IndyCar series first road course event since the IndyCar Grand Prix in early May. Jones earned his highest finish of the year, sixth, on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course and aim to finish strong once again by balancing the ever-changing track conditions at Road America through minimizing tire wear while maximizing speed.
This year’s race is IndyCar’s 29th appearance on the 14-turn, 4.014-mile permanent road course. Most IndyCar drivers listed Road America as among their favorites on the schedule, and the fans agree. The longest road course on the IndyCar calendar carves through green rolling hills that make for perfect viewing mounds while the center of the track cradles a bustling paddock, Wisconsin-themed food venues and even a zip line that takes you past the final turn. With the track just minutes away from the shores of Lake Michigan, the race weekend provides a beautiful holiday spot for fans as much as it provides a fierce competition location for teams.
For Jones Road America offers opportunity for fun and to be competitive.
“Road America should be a good race it’s a really fun track to drive,” Jones said. “In the last two years I’ve had top 10 finishes in both races, so I’ve had a good record there. I think for Chevy it’s supposed to be a strong track historically, the last few years they’ve been strong there. I’m really hoping we can hit the ground running. Unfortunately, the test got cancelled due to weather, but I’ve done simulator work. I’m sure the guys have done a lot of work in the shop and we can run strong there.”
The weekend at Road America kicks off Friday, June 21 at noon for a day of practice. Qualifying takes place Saturday, June 22 after a final practice session and be watched live on NBC Sports Gold. Race day is Sunday, June 23 with NBC coverage beginning at noon and the green flag dropping at 12:30 p.m. ET.
