Monterey, California. In the first official weekend of racing for Scuderia Corsa, the newly formed racing team owned by Giacomo Mattioli and Art Zafiropoulo, the team has earned the pole GT position thanks to veteran drivers Olivier Beretta and Alessandro Balzan and their quick No. 63 Ferrari 458 GT3.
Six-time ALMS champion Olivier Beretta pushed the No. 63 to Friday’s fastest practice lap time, while teammate and Italian touring car veteran Alessando Balzan earned them the GT pole position Saturday with a best lap time of 1:27.594 (91.979 mph) . This was Balzan’s first time behind the wheel of No.63 and his first time at the legendary Laguna Seca track. The 31-year-old from Rovigo, Italy, said “I’m very proud to race here in the U.S. This track is very famous in Italy and it’s always been my dream to be here. I really have to thank Scuderia Corsa for the opportunity. It’s been great and I am looking forward to tomorrow.”
Of his team’s pole position, team principal Giacomo Mattioli said, “I am really proud of our team, we have a lot of talent but so many things need to come together to be successful. I am also grateful to Ferrari and Michelotto for their support of our program. I look forward to a great race tomorrow and giving race fans a day to remember.”
