Beretta And Balzan Finish Strong In Debut Of Scuderia Corsa No. 63 Ferrari 458 At Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca In Grand Am Rolex Series
Monterey, California. After a weekend of dominating the GT class – including qualifying for pole position, fastest lap time and a commanding first half of the race – an unfortunate yellow flag led the Scuderia Corsa No. 63 Ferrari 458 to a 4th place finish in the GT class at the Grand Am Rolex race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Six-time ALMS and Le Mans champion Olivier Beretta of Monaco ran the fastest lap in practice and helmed the car for the second half of the race. Of his first experience driving for the new Scuderia Corsa team, Beretta said, “The car was running well. We had good pits and the crew did a fantastic job. For the first appearance to have made the pole and finished fourth without any issues on the car or in the pit is a good result.”
Co-driver Alessandro Balzan, a veteran Italian touring driver who dominated the GT pack in the No. 63 for the first quarter and put the Ferrari on the GT pole said, “I was very happy with my first experience driving in the US. Thanks to Scuderia Corsa, during my stint the No.63 Ferrari was perfect and the guys did a strong job. I’ll never forget my first race in the US. Giacomo and the team made the best for me.”
Team principal Giacomo Mattioli on his team’s debut “We finished two seconds away from second place thanks to an unfortunate yellow flag that didn’t match our strategy. Overall the weekend was a very good debut for our Team, and we are looking forward to Daytona 24H in January. I would like to congratulate AIM for winning the championship today.”
